Old shots from Holdrege

Here are a few old photos from a storm chase in Holdrege, Nebraska, July 7, 2005. This was back when I was shooting film with an EOS 3 and a Tamron 17-35mm for the wide end. The wall cloud formed south of town (shown in the top two photos -- the first shot while I was driving, the second shot after I stopped about 1/4 mile from the cloud), then moved northeast and dropped a tornado east of town, narrowly missing the airport. The condensation funnel isn't visible, but the debris cloud is. The wide angle lens makes things look further away; the tornado is never more than a mile away.

Awesome! These pictures really show off the huge dynamic range of film that small-format digital has yet to match. Pretty cool.

Just a SEO suggestion, but I think if you hyphenated stormchase (to storm-chase) and stormchaser to storm-chaser that Google would match you for people entering BOTH "storm chase" and "stormchase" and "storm chaser" and "stormchaser".

PS... your state fair pics were great!

Amazing how that 17mm on standard size film looks like an enormously wide angle. I've actually been thinking of going back and shooting a few slides (and even ordered some new Velvia). If I hadn't invested so much in a new camera body and lenses, I'd probably shoot with them more often. There is just something about film, alright. By the way, I did pick up the Sigma 10-20mm. Super cool wide angle. A little concerned about the f/4 (vs. the Canon's f/2), but for $350 less, I can cope! ... So far I'm pretty happy, anyway.

PS - That suggestion from Darin sounds so 'Darinish,' doesn't it. :)
